The Website Development Process
The web development process begins with integrating the web design (presentation layer) with the web management platform which includes the page contents (text and images).
Web Management Platform
All of our websites are built on a web management platform. The platform provides a helpful interface to the web pages, menus and associated modules on the site. This makes both site support and content editing both easy and instantaneous. These platforms which always include a Content Management System. For those customers who want to be able to manipulate some of the page content, we provide administrative access and training to allow them to do this.
Based upon the documentation, created in the design planning process, the navigation menus and web pages are created forming the skeleton of the website. We generally ask our clients to provide us the marketing copy for the web pages which we then add to the web page via the Content Management System following some key word integration (see Search Engine Friendly article below).
Call to Action
A clear 'Call to Action' is required for effective websites. You must always get an answer to the question "What do I want my site visitors to do?". There could be many answers to this but they must be accounted for when developing the website.
Modules
Many websites contain pre-built web components, referred to as modules, that add functional capability to websites. There are too many modules to list here but they could include things like:
- Event Calendars
- Photo Galleries
- News feed readers
- Online Surveys
- Log-in to a restricted portion of the website
- Ad banners
Integration
The development phase is where these module get integrated into the website. We strive for as seamless an integration as possible to make each module appear as if it was bolted permanently to the website.
